Linux Certification Paths

Here is a spreadsheet that summarizes the most popular Linux certifications. In it, you’ll find:

  • How long each Linux certification lasts.
  • Which exams you’ll need to pass in order to be Linux certified.
  • The approximate cost of training required to become certified.

There are many Linux certifications, so here’s my recommendation: Study for, take, and pass the distro-agnostic Linux Professional Institute LPIC-1 certification. However, if you know you’ll be primarily working with Red Hat, then the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification is a great place to start.

By the way, you can have a successful career as a Linux professional without ever being certified. Being certified is just one step on one path along the way. And there are MANY paths that will take you where you want to go.

I’ll be sharing more about that in a future post…

All the best,

Jason
